2018 Ford Mustang GT Honors WWII Eagle Squadron

To honor the American pilots of WWII Eagle Squadron and for a good cause, Ford Motor Company is decking out their 2018 Mustang GT to look like a Supermarine Spitfire fighter aircraft. The fundraising auction takes place July 26 at the Experimental Aircraft Association (EAA) event called The Gathering in Oshkosh, WI.

Special Edition Collector Cars Are the Bomb

Do you collect special edition cars? Is there a collector car like this Mustang you would love to have in your garage? Share a story about your favorite one-of-a-kind car in the comments.

700 hp Mustang? Give That Pony Wings

It is the twentieth time Ford has tricked out one of their cars for this event, and this time they are surpassing themselves. The exterior is dressed as an actual WWII British Spitfire, which is way cool. Ford doesn’t stop there. They upgrade their pony car to a 5L V8 700hp engine, expand the frame with an RTR wide-body kit, install a Tactical Performance suspension package underneath and throw in a supercharger for good measure. Does Ford want to auction this car or drag race an actual Spitfire? We think they can do both.

Unveiling at Goodwood Festival of Speed

Though this Mustang heads to auction soon, its unveiling on July 12 at the Goodwood Festival of Speed near London (the Eagle Squadron had its home base near Goodwood) will honor the courageous spirit of the Royal Air Force (RAF) and the British people during WWII. The car will not stay in England long. After the unveiling, it heads to the EAA Gathering auction where one lucky winner is waiting. Hopefully, Ford is going to announce they are keeping the exterior Spitfire livery.

Who is Eagle Squadron?

Before America enters the war in the aftermath of Pearl Harbor, U.S. pilots volunteer to fly for the RAF and become known as Eagle Squadron They are assigned Supermarine Spitfire planes to fly patrol over the British and French coasts. With a supercharged Rolls Royce engine producing nearly 1,400hp, these short-range interceptor planes streak across the skies at a top speed of 363 mph.
