One of Tim Mottiel’s favorite car shows is Artomobilia, which takes place every August in Carmel, Indiana. “The setting is so much different than all the other ones,” he tells John Pitz at the 2019 event. “This is on the streets of Carmel, which is this beautiful setting.” Tim shows one of the most enduring legacy cars of the Lamborghini name, the Miura – a 1969 Miura P400S that’s painted a unique “Oranchio Borealis” color. This Miura has a 360 horsepower V12 engine and is the fastest production road car available at the time of its release. Everything else about the car is distinct, down to the signature, easily recognizable Fiat 850, spider-derived eyelashes that run overtop its headlights.

On A Whim and A Prayer

Tim buys the Oranchio Borealis Miura on a whim, after it is seized by the U.S. Marshals and put up for auction. The car gets some work done at Evans Automotive Repair in Columbus, Ohio before Tim starts taking it apart. “I took it down to bare metal and then realized that it was above my pay grade to put back together,” he says. Oops! He knows exactly where he could get award-winning, flawless workmanship, though – and has it restored at Rod Stryker’s Quality Automotive in Cincinnati, Ohio.

Winning Car Show Awards And Taking Names

Tim’s Miura wins Best of Marquee at its first show, Concours d’Elegance in Cincinnati, and goes on to win 12 trophies including Best of Show Postwar and Best of Exotic at Artomobilia 2018. “So I’m just thrilled to be back,” Tim says. Even more impressively, Tim’s Miura is one of the recognizable characters in what some call the most memorable appearance of any car in the history of one funny man’s popular TV series.

Comedians in Cars Getting Coffee

Tim’s Miura is featured in the second season of Jerry Seinfeld’s roving talk show, Comedians in Cars Getting Coffee. In the episode titled, Kids Need Bullying, Jerry says of the Lamborghini Miura, “It is in my opinion the most beautiful car ever designed.” He pairs his Miura experience with a special guest appearance by former Saturday Night Live cast member and Emmy/Grammy Award winner Chris Rock, because of a distinct similarity he sees between Tim’s Miura and Chris in character and attitude. “When it came onto the scene, it was so shocking and different that it blew everyone away,” Jerry says. “It screams.” Just like Chris Rock does when he makes a name for himself as a comedian in the 1990’s. The episode is ranked 38 on Vulture’s Every Episode of Comedians in Cars Getting Coffee, Ranked and can be viewed currently on Netflix.

Making Memories

What makes the Miura’s appearance so memorable – infamous, even? Well, while driving it, Jerry can’t help but note the car is fast. Moments later, so does a police officer – pulling them over for speeding. “It was flying,” Tim says. “He was absolutely flying, but he got out of the ticket.” As only a superstar can. Chris Rock even takes an Instagram photo from inside the car to commemorate the crazy.
