It seems that the news channels have brought us not one, but TWO new Batmobiles to drool over until the next Caped Crusader film hits the big screen on May 6th, 2016.
The first of the two Batmobile collector cars is a restoration on what has been named as the oldest known Batmobile in existence. Custom built by a teenager in the 1960’s, this once-great crime-fighting machine what then left to rot in a Chicago warehouse. Over the years, most of the car deteriorated and was not cared for in any way, but when the owner didn’t think he was up for the task of restoring the car, he listed it on eBay last year. The car sold for $19,800, and has since been fully restored to its original condition, complete with swooping tails, red accents and white-wall tires.
It took over 1700 hours of manpower and eleven months, but the car is back and looking better than ever. Current owner, Sid Belzberg is enjoying the classic and says he isn’t planning to sell anytime soon.
The second of these comic-cars is a custom-built Tumbler, based on the cars from Christopher Nolan’s Dark Knight Series. This car is completely street legal, with an LS1 5.7 Liter V8 under the hood, 44-inch tires, a completely custom frame and chassis, as well as sat-nav, iPod integration, and many other custom perks.
This vehicle will run a buyer around $1 million to purchase, making it roughly twice the cost of a Lamborghini Aventador.
