Rick can move on from the dirty work to something he is very excited about and has been waiting a long time to do…that’s move on to the brake assembly. Working with a Kugel 90-degree brake setup with a T5 five-speed hydraulic clutch, this will be a cool new addition to the project car.

Episode 12 – Video Transcript

Rick Drewry: Welcome back to COVID 1953 Chevy Project that we’re building. I’ve moved on from the dirty work, as far as scraping and everything on the inside of the car, and getting the inside of the roof taken care of. I’m moving onto something that I’ve been waiting a long time to do. I picked up a Kugel 90-degree brake setup at a swap meet. I’m going to say about 15 plus years ago, and it doesn’t fit under every car. Some dashes are too narrow, but the ‘53 Chevy has plenty of room. And it goes with my theme of smoothing the firewall because I did not want the master cylinder to be right there, too, so it’s going to be completely hidden. Plus, this setup that I have, I am going to be running a T5 five-speed with a hydraulic clutch.

This setup has not only the 90-degree master cylinder, but it also the hydraulic master cylinder and clutch pedal as well. So, it is a really cool setup and I’ve been waiting a long time to do it. I welded the brackets in place, got everything mocked up. Everything works the way I want it to. Then, I also got some aftermarket, clutch, brake and a gas pedal, and even mock those up as well because I have to know where everything’s going to be. Especially since I had to cut a hole for the aftermarket gas pedal assembly. I am doing away with the old arm thing that went through from the original. So, I got it all mocked up and the next step on that one would be just to remove it and take it completely apart and powder coat or paint it. Whichever direction I go, I will have it ready for final assembly when that time comes; very excited. It’s gonna turn out really good and it wasn’t that difficult to put in place. It’s going to be a cool feature of this car still on a budget. You can’t beat 75 bucks or something like that. So, stay tuned more cool things to come.
