The annual Concours d’Elegance collector car show at the 18th fairway at Pebble Beach began in 1950 as an addition to the Pebble Beach Road Race but quickly developed its own following as both a social event and exclusive car show. The 2012 event takes place on August 19 and “is not a contest of speed, but of excellence.”
The Concours is a luxury collector car event meant to showcase historical accuracy as well as style and technical specifications. Special classes featured in the 2012 event include Cars of the Maharajs, Mercer, Fiat, Saoutchik Coachwork, AC and AC Cobra, Hot Rods: Sport Customs, and German Motorcycles. Other unique classes include Antique through 1915: Small Horsepower, Prewar and Postwar Preservation, as well as Open Wheel Race Cars.
Concept cars are often unveiled at the Concours, acclaiming the continued innovation, elegance, and ingenuity of the automobile industry. In 2010, eight concepts and new cars made their world debut and four made their North American debut. The inclusion of concept and new car designs truly makes the event come full circle in its celebration of collector car elegance past, present, and future.
