This is Rick Drewry with Classic Auto Insurance. We’re here at Detroit Autorama 2020, revealing the Great Eight award winners, and they got crowned this morning. And then we will wait and see tomorrow who ends up winning the Riddler out of these Great Eight. Another fine example is behind me with this 1966 F-100. It is a pretty cool truck.

There’s a whole lot of mods, with the front end being block-nosed without the front bumper. It’s kind of built into the body, a new Coyote 5.0 with the supercharger on top, but the paint is really what’s setting it apart.

Without any lights on it, it kind of fades into the background. There’s not a whole lot there, but then as soon as the light hits it, you can see the metallic, it just brightens right up.

So it’s going to be one of those that when you drive under a streetlight, or if the bright sun’s out, it’s going to be a completely different truck. So will it win? We don’t know, but this is another great example, and we’ll find out tomorrow.

No Detail Was Overlooked On This 1966 Ford F100 Custom Pickup

Fun Fact: There were three Ford trucks in the Great 8 and each one is powered by a Ford engine. The crew from Rowes Rod & Customs of Akron, Ohio built this incredibile 1966 Ford F100 for George Conrad from Huron.

Design mainstays from the original pickup were preserved and enhanced in the overall design. Horsepower was sourced from the Ford Motor Company. The engine is a Whipple blown 5.0 Coyote and the automatic transmission a Ford 6R80 6-speed.

The deep gray leather bed panels match the interior, which is entirely custom down to the hand-molded dash. The interior trim is painted to match the bronze and chrome exterior details. The steering wheel matches the wheel spokes, and the brake calipers are painted to blend with the build.
