A one-of-a-kind 1970 Pontiac Firebird restomod went up on the block at the Mecum Chicago auction last week, and though this was a predecessor to the much-lauded Trans Am, this custom model sold for $87,000.
This turbo-charged Pontiac Firebird came fully equipped with numerous custom additions, and held a 480i twin-turbo Butler block, Comp Cams custom hydraulic roller, a custom billet Visner intake manifold, twin 66mm Bullseye turbochargers with a custom air-to-air intercooler, stainless steel manifolds, exhausts, and custom plumbing, an X pipe and 3-inch Magnaflow mufflers, a Rockland Tranzilla T56 6-speed transmission, and much, much more.
Restoration/Modification cars like this one have seen a drastic increase in popularity in recent years, due to the fact that the current generation of collectors don’t always care as much about authenticity as they do about power and customization.
