Episode 17 – Video Transcript
Rick Drewry: All right. Another quick update on the project COVID 1953 Chevy 150. One when I got the car, I had to do some modifications to the engine. The mounting system – what they had on there were the pancake-style motor mounts. What they did was they used an engine plate and made the ears of the engine plate mount onto these pancake mounts. That is not what I wanted to do. I wanted to use the actual mounting service. I think they did it because maybe they were worried about clearance or whatever. It worked. But I would rather have it where it is supposed to be. So, I had to go in and cut out old brackets and get everything out of the way. I have new pancake mounts that are designed for the 49 to 54 Chevies. They basically sit on the frame rail, and you have to weld them in place, or you can bolt them; either one. I am going to weld them.
I am cutting the old ones out and getting the old mounting system out of the way. It’s kind of key. And when I go to set the engine in, that also gives me free rein to put it as far back as forward as I want it to be. I am going to try to set it back with just about an inch clearance in the back by the firewall. That way, I am not stuck with whoever made the mounts before. I can use my own and dial it into where it should be. So that’s done. I went through and drilled out all welds and grounded them all out. I will have a little bit of welding to do, fixing any holes that I made in the frame. I have to weld them all up and finish them off, but, for the most part, they came out pretty good. So, just another thing that I had to do to keep moving forward.
