Ford is about to start production on the sixth generation of the Mustang, and the now 50-year-old car is getting some new additions and even a fresh start in some new countries!
The 2015 model will be produced at the Flat Rock, Michigan factory, just south of Detroit. What is different about this model, though, is that it will also be produced in a right-hand-drive version to be sold in 25 new markets. All totaled, the 2015 Mustang will be exported and sold in over 120 countries.
Although the Mustang has been outsold by the Chevy Camaro for the past several years, the new additions to this model, and the momentous year for the car, give us high hopes that their sales will surpass other muscle cars in the same class.
The Mustang’s sales were the highest in the 1960’s, with Ford producing over 600,000 cars per year. Now, if sales exceed expectations, Ford has agreed to add an extra shift of workers to the Flat Rock plant, increasing production of the car from 220,000 to 300,000.
The new Mustang offers a lower and wider body shape, and also offers a variety of options for the base model. Buyers can choose from the 300hp V6, the 310hp Turbocharged Four-Cylinder, or the 435hp V8 model.
