Ford Thunderbird Was No Turkey

In continuation with the Corvette theme we’ve had going lately, we wanted to highlight one of Corvette’s biggest competitors during a prime age for muscle cars.

Also, since it’s “bird day”, we thought it would be fun to talk about a “bird” car!

In 1955, Ford wanted to have a strong response to the success Chevy was having with their Corvette, so they released the Thunderbird. Although it didn’t prove to be as solid of a racing car as the Corvette was known to be, the Thunderbird actually outsold the Corvette in that era.

Even though the Thunderbird was in competition with the Corvette, it was never actually marketed as a sports car. Instead, the Thunderbird was advertised more as a luxury car (on a less expensive scale than other luxury models).

The Thunderbird went on to be known as a great American classic, although it was never as popular as it was when it first released.

Ford revamped the Thunderbird with eleven different models and released new lines of the classic car until 2005, with the most recent models being a “throw-back” to the original body styles.

If you are the proud owner of one of these muscle cars, let Classic Auto Insurance help you protect your investment!

Also on this day, we want to express our gratitude to all of our Classic Auto Customers! We are extremely thankful for you and your business, and we hope you all have a fantastic holiday season!
