Lamborghini Veneno - Only 3 Made!

Lamborghini Veneno

Love a little bit of exclusivity in your classic car collection? How would you feel about owning one of only 3 models made of any particular classic?

Three lucky (and very wealthy) people have recently become the owners to the new Lamborghini Veneno, a new concept revealed by the Italian company earlier this year at the Geneva Motor Show, in honor of the Lamborghini’s 50th anniversary. The Veneno, labeled as the fastest road car Lamborghini has ever built, sold the only three production models to three different buyers before the cars were even completed. The cars sold for approximately $4.5 million each.

Curious about more details on this instant classic? Check out this video from the car’s release and let us know what you think!

“Green Dragon” - The Shooting Star from Peerless

Peerless Green Dragon

Peerless was a U.S car manufacturing company that thrived between 1900 and 1930, and was renowned for its cars of luxury and quality.  A sixty-horsepower four-cylinder created by this company in 1904 was the lucky break that kept this company going for three decades.

These vintage classic cars were brought made popular by Barry Oldfield, the 'Boy in Green', known for his zest for speed and countless racing records in these cars. The new model from Peerless soon picked up the nickname ‘Green Dragon’. Peerless also earned respect from racing aficionados, making it a name to reckon with in automobile manufacturing.  It's reputation grew from coast to coast for manufacturing high performance vehicles with unrelenting quality, durability and luxury.

Their stunning success in racing fields inspired Peerless to build a series of Green Dragons which set many perfect scores in early Glidden Tours, and emerged as the fastest ever in the Mt. Washington Hill climb in New Hampshire. It was judged as the Best American Sports/Competition Car - Pre-WWII in 2004.

Peerless also has many firsts to its credit, including:

  • Installation of the fly ball governor to manage speed

  • Use of a hinged steering wheel for easy access into the cockpit

  • Made extensive use of aluminum in cars

Peerless cars are a rare sight today as very limited editions were manufactured, and they were among the most luxurious cars sold in America. While you hunt for your classic Peerless Green Dragon, don’t forget to factor in insurance costs to your restoration budget! Classic Auto offers the best prices and the most convenient, custom-made antique car insurance plans for you and your classic car collection. Indianapolis History at the 500

Indianapolis just hosted its 97th Indy 500 race! In true Indianapolis style, the entire race was a tribute to its rich history, and everything down to the pace car had a bit of nostalgic value to it.

While the pace car itself may not be historic (a brand new, 2014 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray), the Chevy name has been deeply ingrained in the 500 since the inception of both occurred in 1911.

Even more significant than the car, the man who drove the pacing Stingray this year was none other than former Colts' quarterback and current 49er’s coach, Jim Harbaugh. Harbaugh is having a good year, after just coming off of a trip to the Super Bowl, he was honored to drive the pace car in Sunday’s race and said as a “longtime racing fan”, participating in this event was a “tremendous thrill”.

If you missed the race, you can catch up on the winners, news and highlights from the Indy 500’s website. If you were lucky enough to attend this historic event, send us your pictures and tell us your stories! As a member of the Indianapolis community, we can never get enough of our local car and racing fans and we hope you will share this excitement with us as we celebrate another year of classic car history!

Lennon or Le Mans?

Beatles Ferrari

Are you in pursuit of a Classic Ferrari? Two historical cars are about to go up for auction: John Lennon’s light blue 330 GT 2+2 (estimated to sell at auction for around $220,000) and the 340/375 MM Berlinetta “Competizione” Ferrari that was a competitor in the 1953 Le Mans race.

Lennon’s Ferrari was  a purchase he made personally in 1965, the day after he passed the test for his driver’s license. Lennon also promptly purchased a Rolls Royce Phantom Limousine as well as a Mini.

The Ferrari was originally scheduled to be auctioned starting at 170,000 euros at Bonham’s of Paris in 2011, but was withdrawn just before the sale. It has since been scheduled to appear on July 12th of this year at the Bonham’s Goodwood Festival of Speed, with an increased price tag of 220,000 euros.

Putting this price tag to shame, the Le Mans racing Ferrari, which was driven by Mike Hawthorn and Nino Farina, is estimated to sell for around 5 million euros at an RM Auctions, Inc. sale in Italy later this year.

While you may not have the bank account large enough to purchase one of these two legendary Ferraris, well kept Ferraris are gaining value at rapid rates. Hagerty’s “Blue Chip” index shows the Ferrari has had a 24% increase in resale value in just under a year. An investment in these classics could end up to be the best purchase you’ve ever made.

Before you make your purchase, check out what Classic Auto Insurance can do you for you. We insure classic Ferraris with custom-made plans that will provide you with exactly the coverage you need, no more and no less. Get an instant, free quote today!

Porsche 918 Spyder

Porsche 918

Did you get the opportunity to be a part of the Geneva Motor Show this year? If not, you may have missed the grand unveiling of the La Ferrari and the McClaren P1. While these cars appear to be at the top of the heap among the next racing greats, one reveal you definitely don’t want to overlook is that of the Porsche 918 Spyder.

While even its biggest fans are aware that the Porsche is heavier and “outgunned” by its competitors, the designers are saying that the 918 Spyder will be a tough challenge for them because of the speed it will offer from its torque-vectoring wheels and ability to gain speed through mid-corners.

The 918 can reach 60 mph in a maximum of 3.1 seconds, and this high performance hybrid car has an output of over 218 horsepower. Even with all of this power and speed, when driven well, the new Spyder can reach an unbelievable performance of 82 miles per gallon.

If you’re on the lookout for a new classic, the Porsche 918 Spyder will eventually be a multi-million dollar collectable, since the starting price tag is over $1 million. Don’t let a car worth this much money go underinsured. Classic Auto Insurance can help you protect a Spyder, and any other classics you may have in your garage, at a price that is better than our competitors. Give us a call today for more information on how we can fully protect you with exotic car insurance and also save you money!
