Ford Recreates Empire State Mustang

Ford Mustang On Top Of Empire State Building For 50th Anniversary

Ford is in the process of recreating the original Mustang debut as part of the 50th anniversary celebration for this historic car. Back in 1964, Ford managed to chop up a Mustang into three parts, and transport it all the way atop the Empire State Building, where the car was displayed for all tourists and fans to view.

This year, as Ford recreates the scene, the Mustang will be transported the same way. Instead of a crane or a helicopter to transport, Ford plans to disassemble a 2015 Mustang convertible, and haul it piece by piece up the service elevator.

This recreation is in addition to the nationwide tour and several other events to honor the 50th year of the Mustang. Do you plan to attend any of the events or make a trip to see the Empire State Mustang?

Before you head out, give Classic Auto Insurance a call to make sure all of your policies are up to date and you are getting the best rates for your Mustang car insurance policy. Lamborghini Releases the New Huracan

Lamborghini Releases the New Huracan

The Lamborghini Gallardo has said its goodbyes, but the company has outdone itself with the replacement for this favorite among exotic cars. Debuting at the 2014 Amelia Island Concours d’Elegance, the Lamborghini Huracan was introduced by the company’s CEO, Stephan Winkelmann, who did a question and answer session for fans at the show.

It may be hard for Lamborghini to outsell the Gallardo, since that classic sold over 14,000 models (the top selling vehicle in the company’s history), but fans are already awaiting pricing on this new model so they can put in their custom orders.

Even without the release of the price tag, over 300 Lamborghini fans in North America have already pre-ordered their Huracans, and the CEO told attendees that the reception at Concours even matched the enthusiasm of that in Geneva.

The Huracan comes with quite a few changes from the Gallardo, however, the most noticeable being that of a mixed aluminum and carbon fiber frame. This car is lighter, and stronger than the Gallardo ever was, making it one of the most race-ready cars Lamborghini has ever released. The Huracan also comes fully equipped with a double-clutch unit and standard all-wheel drive system with full electronic controls.

Take a look at the Huracan in this video:

Photographing Your Classic Cars

Photographing Classic Car Collection

Spring is approaching and the warm, sunny weather is just around the corner. With the onset of beautiful days, many classic car owners will be looking to bust open their garages and take some photographs of their collections.

Before you click on your phone’s camera app and attempt to take some snapshots of your favorite car, we thought we’d offer you a few tips on how to take some stellar shots of your collection, and give you yet another way to enjoy your collection and share it with the car lovers around you.

  1. Invest in quality equipment: If this is something you’re going to do regularly, it pays to have the right tools for the job. Investing in a DSLR or a mirrorless camera will put a small hole in your pocket, for sure, but the quality of the pictures you will get is unmatched by any other point-and-shoot or cell phone camera.
  2. Consider your background: Don’t just snap a picture of your car in garage or in an empty parking lot. Pick an alternative background. A car is mobile, so take it somewhere with visual interest, and make the most of your pictures by snapping other places and objects in the shot with your car. Also, make sure the extras are out of the shot. You don’t want trash or other things in the shot that might take the focus away from your car.
  3. Lighting is key: The early morning hours and the dusky evening hours are the best times of the day to get quality lighting for your photos. Also, don’t discount a good cloudy day; clouds and overcast skies often provide optimal lighting for your photos without too many shadows or bright spots in your pictures.
  4. Consider motion shots: If you take a little bit of time to learn the settings on your camera (if you are totally new to photography, try searching for your camera model on YouTube to find some instructional videos), you can quickly learn how to lengthen your aperture time to make it look like your car is speeding down the highway, when in reality, it’s only moving a few miles per hour.
  5. Invest in a tripod: For only a few dollars, you can ensure that your pictures won’t be blurry. It’s really that simple. Increase the quality of your shots exponentially by guaranteeing your camera remains motionless during the picture, especially if you are taking an extended aperture shot.

Indiana’s Historic Automotive Past

Historic Marmon Cars

The Indianapolis Star ran a fascinating piece this week on some Indianapolis history and how, in decades past, Indy was at the forefront of the automotive industry. The Indiana Automotive Historical Society is trying to raise awareness for the citizens of Indiana, in an effort to restore some knowledge and some passion about the industry that once was. We won’t rehash the entire article here, but we wanted to share a few of the main points with you and encourage you to go read the article for yourself. We hope more people will be inspired to honor the history of our great city, and continue the tradition of preserving some of these great cars for future generations to see and love.

  • In the early 20th century, there were over ninety-one car models being designed and manufactured in Indianapolis. Occurring largely between 1896 and 1937, Indianapolis was the home for the Duesenberg, the Marmon and the Stutz, three pioneering brands in the automotive industry.
  • Indianapolis, as most know, was the home of the very first Super Speedway in the United States. The Marmon, one of the classics originally produced in this city, won the very first Indianapolis 500.
  • The IAHS is working to sponsor two lectureships and two field trips every year to boost affiliation with the organization, and raise awareness for Indianapolis’ rich history, our landmarks, our car collections, and other historic items.

If you want to get involved with the IAHS, we highly recommend contacting them for more information on how you can participate in the upcoming events! While you’re at it, check back with us for discounts you can receive on your antique car insurance policies when you have memberships in certain car clubs and societies. We love to offer discounts and help you spend less money on insurance and more money on the car collection you are preserving. Call us today at 888-901-1338 for a free instant quote.
